On Sunday 22nd July 2007 Victor Harbor Golf Club competed in 2 Men’s Pennant Finals conducted at Mount Barker Golf Club.

Despite the rain during the previous week, Mount Barker Golf Course was in excellent condition, with the greens putting fast and true.

In Team Grade Division 2, Victor Harbor Golf Club competed against Nairne Golf Club for the John Harrison Shield.  The Victor Harbor Team led by their captain, Joe Melling won 5 matches to 2.

The results for Victor Harbor were: J.Grant lost to D. Arney 8 & 6; A. Snowden defeated D. Richardson 1 up; G. Walker lost to J. Brooks 1 down; L. Drummond defeated M. Wenman 3 & 2; D. Haddrick defeated D. Hollit 3 & 2; J. Melling defeated S. Keough 4 & 2; and S. Parkes defeated T. Strautt 3 & 2.

Joe Melling was naturally delighted with this win as his team was undefeated for the Pennant Season, a feat not achieved at Victor Harbor for a number of years.

The Club’s other team competing against Echunga Golf Club in Team Grade Division 4 led by captain Paul Teasdale was narrowly defeated 4 matches to 3.

Pennant co-ordinator Barry Green later paid tribute to all the pennant players who took part during the season and paid a special thank you to the members and supporters who made the trip to Mount Barker to watch the finals.

Barry Green mentioned the support given to the Pennant Teams throughout the season from the sponsors: Tony Minutella, Mario Bridge Electrical; Phil Harding, P & R Harding Electrical Contractors; Brett Thomas, Angove’s Wines and Kym Roads, Yorke’s Holiday Apartments.
