In cold and damp conditions the Victor Harbor Golf Club A1 Pennant Team teed off at Mount Barker Golf Course against rival finalist
Echunga. The scene was set for a tough match with Echunga featuring as outright favorites against the steady but consistent Victor team. Conditions were tough with little run on the waterlogged Mt. Barker Course.

At the close of play the result was extremely tight, with Victor Winning 4 matches to 3. The match of the round saw J. Wenman with two holes to play being down 1 hole. With some fantastic golf reminiscent of some of the great shots played at Augusta in the US Open, “Jacko” as he is affectionately known, put his approach shot to the 17^th green within 1 metre of the hole, sinking it to draw the match with 1 hole to play.

The pressure was immense with both players getting of the 18^th tee well. The Echunga player hit his approach onto the green some distance from
the hole. Then Jacko showed everyone how to play pressure golf. His approach shot landed two feet from the pin, enabling him to win the hole and the match, and securing the Von Doussa Shield for Victor Harbor.

The Club had not won this shield for 13 years when the club had some great golfers such as Ray Topley, Peter Marshall, John Grant, Malcolm Davis, Trevor Holmes, Peter Hoffman and Michael Bohnsack.

Given the absence of the shield for this length of time celebrations continued at the club late into the night.
